Case Study: BMW

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW), is an independent German company and manufacturer of automobiles and motorcycles. BMW is the parent company of the MINI and Rolls-Royce car brands. It is also one of the leading German car manufacturers.

BMW was officially founded as a public company in 1922, but traces its origins to the pioneering days of German aviation all the way back to 1913. Two of these pioneering men, Karl Rapp and Gustav Otto, are credited by BMW as the "founding fathers". However, BMW owes its actual founding by three men- Josef Popp, Max Friz, and Camillo Castiglioni. These men brought BMW through many turbulent times in the company's early life, as well as taking the company public in 1922 to form BMW AG.
Beginning with aircraft engines, BMW AG produced a variety of products in its early years, eventually moving to motorcycle production in 1923 and automobiles in 1929. The circular blue and white BMW logo, which has not changed throughout the companies history, does not in fact symbolize a spinning propeller. The BMW Trademark was in fact derived directly from the logo of the predecessor company Rapp Motorenwerke.

SECURITY SOLUTION – LARGE GLOBAL AUTO MANUFACTURER

Problem:
BMW retail locations were looking for a security and surveillance solution that allowed the independent owner’s to be able to remotely monitor their show rooms and service area bays.  Looking to improve employee productivity in the main showrooms and keep a very close eye on the main key box for all the cars in the service bay areas were critical to each location.  The owner’s of the retail location wanted a complete 100% situational awareness shot of their entire show room and auto service bays.  The local Security Integrator who installed the IVIEW™ 360 at the dealership concluded that a solution based on fixed or PTZ dome cameras would not provide adequate coverage since they are uni-directional (i.e. they can only be pointed to one direction at a time) whereas the IVIEW™ 360 is omni-directional and can cover the complete scene

Solution:        
Since IVIEW™ already had a solid track record in providing unique security solutions to retailers, they were chosen as the manufacturer of choice in providing a complete 100% situational awareness shot of the requirements.

The local Security Integrator who specified 360° cameras approached IVIEW™ as the market leaders and following an initial evaluation informed IVIEW™ that the IVIEW™ 360 was the only logical choice due to the high-resolution 360° coverage.  The local security integrator installed the IVIEW™ 360 at the dealership.  They concluded that a solution based on fixed or PTZ dome cameras would not provide adequate coverage since they are uni-directional (i.e. they can only be pointed to one direction at a time) whereas the IVIEW™ 360 is omni-directional and can cover the complete scene by panoramic or multi-view screens.

The owner’s now had the ability to “see all” inside their showrooms and service bays.
